History and castles
In 1538 the Battle of Preveza was fought, in which the Ottoman fleet of Hayreddin Barbarossa defeated the combined Christian fleet of Andrea Doria. The town has the Castle of Saint Andrew (1701–1717) and Saint George's Castle (1718), while the fortresses of Laskara and Pantocrator were built in the time of Ali Pasha, in 1810. Laskara is the “twin” of the Koulia on Koronisia.
Tunnel and beaches
The Aktio–Preveza tunnel, opened in 2002, is Greece's only undersea tunnel and links Preveza with Aktio. In the area is Monolithi beach with its forest. Aktion airport also serves Lefkada.
