This three-day plan is based on the tourist guide of the Municipality of Arta and I have rewritten it in my own words. It gives no opening hours or distances.
Day 1: the historic town
Start at the Archaeological Museum, then the western cemetery and the Sacred Way of Ambracia, the Parigoritissa and the small theatre. Walk the pedestrian street of Skoufa Street, with cafés and shops, and the neoclassical mansions. See Agia Theodora and Agios Vasileios of the Agora, the Jewish quarter, the synagogue and the Holocaust memorial, and the castle with its clock tower. In the evening try tsipouro and meze in an ouzeri.
Day 2: countryside and coast
Start at the Kato Panagia Monastery and the hills of Arta. Take the coastal road from Vigla to Strogyli, with Panagia Rodia and the hermitage of Agios Vlasios. Continue to Koronisia, with seafood, windsurfing and kitesurfing, kayaking, the Koulia and sunset over the gulf. On the way back, the Riverside Park, the Chanopoulo baths and the Faik Pasha Mosque, which the guide considers the oldest Ottoman monument in Epirus.
Day 3: villages and mountains
Cross the river to Vlacherna and go up to Peta, with a view over Arta. Continue to the hill villages of Pistiana and Rodavgi, or to the Tzoumerka: Agnanta, Melissourgoi, Vourgareli with the Red Church and Theodoriana. Alternatively go via Skoulikaria, Kalentini and Piges to the monasteries of Rovelista and Seltsou. Day trips: Parga, the Acheron and the Necromanteion.
