The Riverside (Parapotamio) Metropolitan Park of Arta covers about 165,000 square metres on the eastern edge of the town, beside the Arachthos and behind Krystalli Square, where the central bus station is.

The lake

The lake is artificial and was created to address irrigation and electricity supply problems, supported by the Pournari barrage built in 1975. In 2000 the Public Power Corporation agreed to finance and design the lake and park, and the municipality later contributed. The lake works as a small ecosystem, fishing is prohibited and geese gather on the shores. The setting is especially scenic at sunset.

What people do here

Residents walk, run and cycle in the park, along with families, photographers and dog walkers. Volunteer clean-ups have been held here, and a Clean Monday celebration was organised by the Skoufas association with the municipality.
