The Arta regional unit covers 1,662 square kilometres and had 63,732 residents (2021 census), about 38 people per square kilometre. It is divided into four municipalities.
The four municipalities
The Municipality of Arta covers 457.2 km² and has 41,600 residents, with its seat in Arta. Central Tzoumerka has its seat in Vourgareli, covers 509.2 km² and has 5,498 residents. Nikolaos Skoufas has its seat in Peta, covers 231.8 km² and has 11,356 residents. The fourth is the Municipality of Georgios Karaiskakis.
Municipal units
Central Tzoumerka includes the municipal units of Agnanta, Athamania, Melissourgoi and Theodoriana. Nikolaos Skoufas includes the units of Arachthos, Kommeno, Kompoti and Peta.
Roads
The A5 motorway (Ionia Odos, part of the European route E951) runs through the area, together with national roads 5 and 30.
