In 1695 it was among the villages paying tribute to Venice for protection from pirates. It was an estate of Ali Pasha and was incorporated into Greece in 1881.

What to see

The area has the Faggos gorge, a protected stone bridge at Kato Chora, a fir forest and the 17th-century church of Saint George, within a monastery of the same name.
