Theodoriana is a village in the northeast of the Arta region, with the Trikala region to the northeast and the Acheloos river passing beside it along the EO30 road. The municipal unit covers 44.4 square kilometres. In 2021 the village had 332 inhabitants and the community 348.

History and monastery

According to Wikipedia, the village was founded in 250 BC as Theodoria by Theodorus of Athamania. In 1793 the Monastery of Panagia was built. During Turkish rule, it is reported, it housed a secret school and was partly used as a makeshift hospital and refuge for fighters.

Rivers and rain

Since 1997 the residents have opposed hydroelectric dams on the village's two main rivers; only one was built. According to National Observatory of Athens station data for 2009–2023, the average annual precipitation here is 2,529 millimetres, the highest in Greece.
