Agnanta is a village in the Arta region, about 55 kilometres north of the city and east of Ioannina, and according to Wikipedia “one of the largest villages of the Tzoumerka region”. Its centre sits at 650–700 metres and its highest districts approach 1,000. The municipal unit covers 124.3 square kilometres and had 1,860 inhabitants in 2021, while the community had 449.

History

No document says exactly when the community was formed. The earliest preserved written evidence is a Turkish title deed of 1729 that refers to the village's properties and forests. The source suggests the village may date to the early 17th century, when people moved toward the Tzoumerka from areas hit by disease and hardship.

In 2011, under the local government reform, Agnanta merged with Athamania, Melissourgoi and Theodoriana to form the municipality of Central Tzoumerka.

Nature

The area has dense vegetation, with forests of fir, maple and pine.
