History
The earliest known reference is in the Venetian archives: in 1697 the village paid tribute for protection from pirates. Around 1880 it had about 200 inhabitants. In 1884 Serafeim Xenopoulos recorded about 35 families, a church of Saint George, three chapels (Theotokos, Holy Trinity, Prophet Elijah) and a one-room school with 20 pupils. In 1881, at the final liberation, the Arachthos was set as the border.
